The Department of Landscape Gardenging of Yunnan Agricultural University was established in 2001. It currently has an undergraduate major in Landscape Gardening, as well as 2 master's degree authorization for Landscape Plants and Ornamental Horticulture and Ornamental Horticulture. Landscape Gardening was listed as a school-level major in 2010, and was selected as a provincial-level first-class major in 2020. There are 50 full-time master students and 407 undergraduate students.
The Department of Landscape Gardening currently has 19 teachers, including 4 professors, 6 associate professors, 2 doctoral supervisors, 8 master supervisors, 1 Young and Middle-aged Academic and Technical Leaders in Yunnan Province, 1 post expert of Flower Industry and Technological System in Yunnan Province, 2 experts of “Green Food Brand” in Yunnan Province and 2 Young and Middle-aged Academic and Technical leaders in Kunming City.The Department of Landscape Gardening has established Flower Industry System of Yunnan Province, Yunnan Provincial Expert (Gaojunping) Workstation, Key Laboratory of Orchidaceae Research in Universities of Yunnan Province, Innovation Team of Orchid Science and Technology in Universities of Yunnan Province, Flower Research Institute of Yunnan Agricultural University, and Institute of Chinese Flower Culture.
In the past five years, the teachers of the Department of Landscape Gardening have undertaken more than 50 scientific research projects. The collection, development and utilization of characteristic flower resources in Yunnan, especially the utilization of germplasm resources in orchids and lilies, have reached the domestic advanced level. Teachers have published more than 200 academic papers, written more than 10 textbooks and monographs, and won more than 10 scientific and technological awards at or above the provincial level. For more than ten years, it has delivered more than 600 professionals of Landscape Gardening both inside and outside the province. Many of them have become the backbone talents in the garden and flower industry, and have made important contributions to the "Belt and Road Initiative" and the construction of ecological barriers in Southwest China and regional economic development.
